New Film Release

BLOODY DAWN
I have licensed four songs and recorded several new pieces of incidental music for use in a Lone Chimney Films documentary feature called, BLOODY DAWN. The film is being made for the PBS and History Channel markets and premiered on Jan 11 at the Orpheum Theater in Wichita KS. BLOODY DAWN is also playing a series of film festivals before it is released for the television markets for the fall 2008 season.

Lone Chimney Films first film, "Touched by Fire - Bleeding Kansas" played on the Kansas PBS stations and several others, and is available on DVD from their website. The new movie focuses on the border wars between Kansas and Missouri surrounding the days of the US Civil War, in particular on the Lawrence Massacre.

Lonestar Stout

Lonestar Stout is a series of shows playing in cities around the US during 2008 and 2009. I will be playing these shows with Mason Brown and a variety of other music friends - top Celtic/Folk artists from the Southwest, Michael William Harrison, Hugh Morrison, Jaime Marum and others.

As the Lonestar Stout brochure exclaims:

LONESTAR STOUT is a mix of songs and tunes performed with Appalachian rhythms, Irish melodies and Tall Texas Tales spun out in a festive frame of mind ... and heavy on the vocals! SOUNDS LIKE

o Dublin City Limits
o Texas Green Grass
o Houston in the Rare Ould Times

o A Yankee in Texas
o White Cockade
o Folk Medicine Show
o Shenandoahs Run

Please check out the video clips then comment and rate them at Youtube - if you can. That helps with my ratings. THANKS to Trudy Scales for the video from Uncle Calvins!

My Sweet Wyoming Home

I have enjoyed learning some rudimentary video skills for posting Youtube clips. There are several I have posted there now, and several that others have posted from my various shows. I have just put together a video of photos set to my recording of a great song written by Bill Staines. You can see the video for MY SWEET WYOMING HOME below by clicking the image. Please rate the clip at Youtube and leave a comment - it helps with my Youtube rank. Thanks!

More on Film and TV Releases

BATTLE OF JACKSON CROSSROADS
I was in Jackson, LA in April for the filming and sound track recording of yet another film. This one is a docudrama made for the History Channel/PBS market by filmmaker, Jeffrey Scott Thomas. The film focuses on the Civil War BATTLE OF JACKSON CROSSROADS. I am actually seen playing the banjo in this film, if the scene makes it by the editor - albeit for a moment or two. I recorded several banjo and guitar pieces for the sound track including one written for the film, called the BELLS OF CENTENARY. Jeffery Scott Thomas is a Hollywood feature film maker and has worked on many big budget films including The Dukes of Hazzard.

TRUE LIVES
The TV series TRUE LIVES is now running on PLAYBOY CHANNEL ONE in UK and Europe on Friday nights at 11:30PM. The series has also run in Canada. They have licensed music from my STREETS OF FALL RIVER album for this series. They have a Myspace profile here.

THE WANDERER
I have been asked to produce the sound track for a feature film that hopes to begin filming in the fall of 2008. The film is currently called THE WANDERER and is being reviewed by several major film production companies right now. I have been asked to base the score on my 2002 album SOUL OF A WANDERER. In order to recreate the original sound of the 2002 track I plan to work with my friends, Brian McNeill and Paul Mills on the project. The business discussions and project planning can take months so I will post information about the project as details become confirmed. BUT I have participated in a series of production meetings already and the project seems to have a life of its own. I am hopeful this one takes root!

Some new and some recently discovered pics

I found some great shots from the 2005 North Texas Irish Festival. I played the event with Tom Leighton, Betty and Keith Waddoups and with producer, Paul Mills. There are also some pics from other events too in this slide show, with my music friends, Mason Brown, Alasdair Fraser, Kathleen Jackson, Karen Mal, Jaime Marum, Brian McNeill, Hugh Morrison, and John Taylor.
